I don't have a mental illness, can I still receive therapy?

Therapy isn’t just for people with a mental health diagnosis—it is a supportive space for anyone facing challenges or changes in life. Whether you’re dealing with relationship issues, feeling overwhelmed at work or school, navigating big life transitions, or coping with loss, therapy can provide tools and guidance to help you manage stress and improve your well-being. Everyone faces difficulties from time to time, and reaching out for support is a positive step toward feeling better and building resilience.

How long will I be in therapy? Will it take long to work?

The length of therapy varies for everyone, depending on your needs and goals. Some people find a few sessions are enough, while others benefit from ongoing support over months or years. There’s no set timeline—many notice improvement early on just by having a safe space to talk. Your progress often depends on how engaged you are, and your therapist will work with you to find the pace and duration that feels right for you.

Can I stop therapy whenever I want and/or find a different therapist?

You are in control of your therapy and deserve to feel comfortable and supported. Every therapist has a different style, so it’s important to find someone who feels like the right fit for you. If a certain approach isn’t working or you don’t feel a connection, it’s okay to talk about it or seek another therapist. Most therapists understand and will help you find someone who better meets your needs.

What should I expect in a typical session?

Therapy is a team effort between you and your therapist, working together to address what’s troubling you and find solutions. In private, one-on-one sessions, you can talk openly about your feelings, life challenges, relationships, or past experiences. Your therapist will listen without judgment and use proven approaches—such as Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behavioural Therapy (DBT), and Strength-Based Therapy—to help you gain new skills and perspectives so you can better manage your concerns and feel supported.

Is therapy confidential?

What you share in therapy is private. Your therapist will keep everything you talk about completely confidential, except in rare situations where your life, or the life of someone you know, is in danger. Your therapist can explain these exceptions so you understand exactly when and why your information might need to be shared.
